Words from 2017-2018 South Texas trip leaders:
The South Texas Alternative Breaks trip is an educational and service geared trip focused on the social issue of immigration. Through the week, we will be committing ourselves learn about the challenges and stories that many immigrants and allies share. We hope to expand on our knowledge on the topic of immigration as we explore this subject through various means of community engagement. We will be volunteering with local community partners to gain a better understanding of social issues by communicating and working with local organizations who work towards the same goal. As we incorporate our different values into what we do in the community, we hope to serve and learn more about the social justice issues affecting not only the community of South Texas, but also our very own community in Austin. As we engage in with the community partners in South Texas, we will return with an open mindset and continue with active citizenship.
