Leonard Moore in the classroom

Congratulations to Our New VP Dr. Leonard N. Moore!

Starting July 1, Dr. Leonard N. Moore, the George W. Littlefield Professor in American History, will assume his new role as vice president for diversity and community engagement. In the announcement, released this month, President Fenves stated, “During Dr. Moore’s time as interim vice president, he built upon his years of teaching and research and further established himself as a leader on our campus and throughout the greater Austin community.”

A Summer of a Lifetime

Two cohorts of students—many first generation—just experienced a summer of a lifetime while studying abroad in Cape Town and Costa Rica. Both programs, led by faculty in the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence (LCAE), combined rigorous academics with cultural immersion.Under the leadership of Dr. Leonard N. Moore, more than 80 students studied urban economic development while residing in Cape Town for a month. Another cohort of LCAE students spent 10 days in Costa Rica, where they gained leadership skills through a number of internships and activities.

UT Elementary Has No Place for Hate

UT Elementary has been officially designated as a No Place for Hate school by the Anti-Defamation League. To earn the designation, schools commit to several anti-bias and diversity related activities throughout the year. They must also demonstrate leadership in teaching and modeling respect for individual and group differences. Read more.
