Settling Into Spring 2018
We hope your first few weeks of classes have gone well and you are settling into your routine for the spring semester. If you haven’t requested or delivered your Accommodation Letters yet it is not too late! There is no deadline to deliver Accommodation Letters but you can’t use your accommodations until you have delivered and discussed your letter with your professors. Request your Accommodation Letters via the online request form (available online at Accommodation Letter Request).
Beware of a Phishing Scam!
SSD has become aware of a phishing scam targeting UT offering disability-related part time work. The email mentions Disability Resources and Education Services (DRES) and implies that the job offer is affiliated with SSD. The individual sending the emails is in no way connected to UT or SSD. More information about this scam is available on the SSD website.
SSD Interns
SSD is excited to have six interns working in our office for the spring semester. Our interns are graduate students in the School of Social Work or College of Education who are gaining professional experience by working in the SSD office. Get to know our interns this semester: Meet the SSD Interns
Preparing for Life after UT
SSD is planning a series of workshops aimed at helping SSD juniors and seniors prepare for life after graduation. These workshops will focus on general topics such as resume writing and interviewing skills but will also include disability-related topics such as workplace accommodations, legal rights in the workplace and diversity and includsion initiatives. Each workshop will be followed by an interactive group session where we can discuss what we learned, how it applies to you, and provide space to discuss any questions or concerns you might have about life after graduation. The transition from student to employee can be daunting and we are trying to make that transition a little bit smoother!
If you would be interested in attending these workshops please share your feedback to help with the planning process: SSD Employment Workshop survey
For more information about these workshops please feel free to contact Chelsea DeSimone at chelsead@austin.utexas.edu.
Fall 2017 Appreciation Awards
SSD honored 41 UT Faculty and Staff members with SSD Appreciation Awards for the Fall 2017 semester. We appreciate all the students who took time to nominate someone for these awards. Visit our website to find out who received Appreciation Award: SSD Appreciation Awards.
Feedback Needed!
SSD is seeking feedback from students about how they prefer to receive notifications about construction on campus. Please answer our 2 question survey: Campus Construction Notification Feedback.
