After a very busy month of interviewing, SSD is delighted to announce we have hired four new Disabilities Services Coordinators! We are excited about the wide range of skills and experiences our new staff members bring to their new roles at SSD and look forward to having all of these new staff on board by the start of August.
We are still in the process of hiring one more Disabilities Services Coordinator so stay tuned for updates and invitations to participate in interviews.
In the meantime, please join us in welcoming these new staff to the SSD team!
Dorothy White
Dorothy White is originally from Maryland but has lived in Austin since 2015 when she started graduate school at UT in the Department of Educational Psychology. During graduate school, she was lucky enough to be a practicum intern for SSD for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 semesters. After graduation, she worked in Intercollegiate Athletics as a Learning Specialist, helping student athletes reach their academic potential. When positions at SSD became available she jumped at the chance to go back and work with students from across UT to promote academic success. When not at work she likes to bike, read and explore Austin.
Eden Stone
Eden Stone is originally from Dallas, Texas. She moved to Austin in 2013. Eden is a two-time graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology and her Master’s in Educational Psychology, with specializations in Counseling, Higher Education, and Student Affairs. Throughout her undergraduate and graduate years, Eden worked in a variety of positions at SSD. She also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Departments of Psychology and Educational Psychology. Off campus, Eden has experience counseling youth in foster care as well as working with individuals who have faced interpersonal violence. After five years of university and community involvement, Eden has grown passionate about disability advocacy and creating equal access and opportunity for students to excel inside and outside of the classroom. She is thrilled to continue working at SSD to build new paths forward for student success. In her free time, Eden enjoys practicing yoga, painting, cooking, and playing with her dogs.
Joanna Tryon
Prior to this new adventure on the SSD Team, Joanna has worked in a variety of settings providing mental health services to trauma survivors, including at an agency serving sex-trafficking survivors in Washington, DC, and in Austin as a mental health counselor and supportive housing advocate at SafePlace. Most recently, she has worked as an academic advisor for the Bridging Disciplines Programs at UT, supporting students pursuing a certificate in topics like “Children & Society”, and “Social Entrepreneurship & Nonprofits”. Joanna is passionate about reducing barriers within systems to allow everyone to have equitable access to the resources that help them succeed. She is dedicated to a human-centered approach to advocacy and counseling and is looking forward to supporting students at UT through the SSD Office! Joanna has a B.S. in Youth and Community Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.Ed. in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. In her time outside of work, she loves to do yoga, watch movies, try out new restaurants in Austin, and most importantly, spend time with her 2- and 1-year-old kiddos, Harvey and Anna, getting all the cuddles.
Matt Trammel
Matt Trammel is born and raised in East Texas, approximately 2 hours east of Dallas. He has spent the past four years of his career working with students in higher education and disability services at UT Tyler, and has found it to be consistently rewarding. He loves being able to work with students individually to help provide them with accommodations that ensure that they will have an equal opportunity to be successful. Working in this field has been a unique and challenging experience that continues to keep him motivated to find new and innovative ways to help serve students.
We hope are very excited about starting the 2018-2019 academic year with these new Disabilities Services Coordinators in place!
