Kassandra Martinez, a psychology senior and participant in the Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) Pre-Graduate Internship Program, is featured in “This Semester I’m Working On,” a new series on UT Austin’s Know site.
In her brief essay, she offers a glimpse at her experience at UT Austin and shares insight into her research on autism and parental stress.
“I’m interested in autism and early childhood intervention, and my thesis topic has been influenced a lot by my past internships and research experience,” Martinez says. “I interned at a nonprofit called Growing Roots, where I helped facilitate an autism course for parents in Spanish. A lot of the moms shared stories about how they coped and their day-to-day struggles. That personal testimony influenced my research questions.”
Visit the Know website to learn more about her research on Spanish-speaking mothers of children with autism, and her future plans to become an advocate for these families.
Housed within the DDCE and the Moody College of Communication, the IE Pre-Graduate Internship Program connects undergrads with graduate students and internship opportunities. Visit this website for more details.
