Student Government Rep. Aims to Champion Services for Students with Disabilities

As the new Student Government representative for Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD), Donald Egan aims to advocate for disability services in the campus community.
As the 2015-15 director for the Disabilities Inclusion Agency, a branch within student government, Egan aims to increase the communication between SSD and student government, and to enhance the student body’s knowledge of SSD.
Egan, an anthropology and biochemistry senior, says student government legislative problems stem from a lack of understanding of the needs of students with disabilities. To help communicate the value of disability resources and services here on campus, he attends weekly assembly meetings and contacts individual members of the assembly.
One of his goals is to build and additional testing center for students with disabilities. Though plans for the new center, which will work in conjunction with SSD, are in early development, Egan says he is confident it will be implemented in a timely manner because it is a top priority for the university administration.
Another item on Egan’s agenda is to create a job fair for students with disabilities. He encourages anyone with comments, questions or concerns to reach out to him, especially if they want to learn more about advocating for students with disabilities in any capacity.
