Recap: UT Austin Salutes First Class of Black Undergraduates

Precursors honored

This year marks the 60th anniversary of UT’s first class of African American undergraduates. Throughout the Black Alumni Homecoming weekend (Sept. 9-11), the class of 1956 was honored at several celebratory events on and off campus.

Below, browse some images, quotes and observations from the anniversary events—and keep the conversation going by using this hashtag: #Blackonthe40acres.

Events are coordinated by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, The Precursors, the Texas Exes Black Alumni Network, the Office of the President, and Texas Athletics.  For more about The Precursors, visit As We Saw It, a website that chronicles UT Austin’s story of integration.
