New Program Prepares African American Students for Graduate School

sankofaThe Black Graduate Student Association at The University of Texas at Austin has launched the Sankofa Scholars, a new pre-graduate school internship program for African American undergraduates.  In partnership with the Intellectual Entrepreneurship (IE) Consortium, the program is available to students at UT Austin, Huston-Tillotson University and St. Edward’s University.

Participating students will be enrolled in the IE Pre-Graduate Internship program, which connects undergraduates with faculty and veteran graduate students in their field of study to explore the unique aspects of graduate school. The Black Graduate Student Association will also provide mentoring sessions with graduate students, speaker events, meetings and various other activities.

“We are excited about this partnership/program with the Black Graduate Student Association,” said IE Founder and Director Rick Cherwitz. “And I look forward to the first cohort of Sankofa students, who this spring will join nearly 200 other UT students in the IE Pre Grad School Internship.”

The first cohort will begin in spring, 2017. Registration is now open for undergraduate scholars and graduate mentors. Go to this website to register.
