Drs. Vincent and Moore Participate in Affirmative Action Forum

On October 31, Dr. Gregory Vincent and Dr. Leonard Moore participated in “A Call to Action: A mission to educate on affirmative action and diversity initiatives” hosted by the Black Student Alliance, University Democrats and the Multicultural Engagement Center (MEC).
During the forum, Dr. Moore presented on inherent biases and the impact of “color blindness.” Dr. Vincent provided a historical overview of affirmative action as well as the university’s stance on holistic admissions following the Fisher case.
The forum was organized to educate the UT Austin campus on the realities of affirmative action following a bake sale organized by the Young Conservatives of Texas whereby baked goods were offered at different prices depending on one’s gender and/or ethnicity.
A Power Point that Dr. Vincent presented on the history of affirmative action titled “Diversity as a Compelling Interest in Higher Education” is also available for download.
