UT Austin and DDCE Celebrate MLK Day

On Monday January 16, DDCE joined UT Austin, the City of Austin, Huston-Tillotson and the greater Austin community in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the 23rd annual MLK Community March.
As is customary, the celebration began on the East Mall of UT Austin near the foot of the MLK statue. Following a brief program, participants and community members marched to the south steps of the State Capital before continuing on to Huston-Tillotson University for the conclusion of the day’s events. During the program, those in attendance heard from President Gregory Fenves, Dr. Gregory Vincent, and Dr. Ted Gordon among others.
Thank you to the Austin Area Heritage Council, UT Austin’s African & African Diaspora Studies Department, the City of Austin, Huston-Tillotson, Sigma Pi Phi and all of the other sponsors who made the day’s celebration so memorable. Special thanks to Brenda Burt, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of African & African Diaspora Studies for leading the charge on behalf of the university.
