DDCE Initiative Kudos

Metropolis Magazine

Metropolis Magazine, which covers architecture, culture and design, has recognized The University of Texas School of Architecture for its commitment to diversity in an article titled, “Diversity Champions: 8 Schools that Aren’t Just Paying Lip Service to Diversity.” The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement was also noted in the article, with a shoutout to our Thematic Faculty Initiative and the Multicultural Engagement Center (MEC).  The article noted that the MEC was “an impressive feat.”

The Thematic Initiative and two other DDCE programs were noted as possible models in a U.S. Department of Education report, “Advancing Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education: Key Data Highlights Focusing on Race and Ethnicity and Promising Practices.” Published in November, the report discussed the Thematic Faculty Initiative as one of several programs to help foster diversity across all levels of an institution. It then discussed the Neighborhood Longhorns Program and MathMasters (now called CalcBridge) as good examples of institutional outreach programs.
