The People of DDCE: MarloJo Scroggins

Meet MarloJo Scroggins, associate director for Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD). In this role, Scroggins coordinates all deaf and hard of hearing services for UT Austin students, staff and faculty as well as community members attending university sponsored events. This includes coordinating sign language interpreters, captioning services, and transcription services.

Born and raised in Southern California, Scroggins has been in Austin for nearly eight years.

“In 2005 I came to Austin to stay for the summer and fell in love with the city,” she says. “Once I graduated from Gallaudet University, (in Washington, D.C.) I came straight to Austin!”

Scroggins began working in the division in February and before coming to UT Austin, she worked as a service coordinator at Austin Travis County Integral Care, serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Medicaid waiver programs. Although she is still pretty new to SSD, what she has enjoyed most is how welcoming and helpful everyone has been.

“I also love getting to come to this beautiful campus every day,” she added.

When away from SSD, Scroggins enjoys spending time with her family as well as reading, being outdoors and swimming. Scroggins, who is deaf and comes from a deaf family, is a proud alumni of the aforementioned Gallaudet University – the only deaf university in the world.

Next time you find yourself in the Student Services Building, take a moment and head up to the fourth floor to say hi and to welcome MarloJo to our DDCE family.
