Representatives from centers, schools and units across the university came together last Monday to kick off the Hearts of Texas Charitable Campaign drive! During the event, organized by the DDCE, they met with representatives from several nonprofits and learned about the many ways they can help the university reach its $600,000 goal.
The campaign begins Oct. 1 and runs throughout the entire month. During this time, employees can select one or more charities that assist those in need in Central Texas and beyond—from hurricane disaster relief to animal rescue to programs for at-risk youth.
In 2016 the campaign raised nearly $600,000, elevating the total to more than $11 million over the past two decades. Dr. Leonard Moore, honorary chair of the campaign and interim vice president for diversity and community engagement, encourages all employees to make a donation.
“No matter the size, know that your gift is making a tremendous difference in the lives of your fellow Texans – be it assisting the elderly, helping those affected by rare diseases or supporting of our parks and wildlife. Every dollar makes a difference,” Moore says.
