UTES Students Participate in Outdoor School

Outdoor School 1This September, 37 fifth-grade-students at UT Elementary School had the opportunity to take part in a unique experiential learning opportunity at Outdoor School. During the three-day field trip at Camp Champions in Marble Falls, students learned about the natural environment while also engaging in fun and exciting personal development and team-building experiences.

During the trip, the fifth graders worked to build trust among themselves and overall it was a game changer, full of memories the students will keep with them forever. Students participated in activities from fishing and kayaking to scaling 5o foot walls above the shore and tight roping 30 feet above the ground. Students also took classes on the history of the land and its people and animals – the unity of nature as they were taught.

At night students played games and were provided an opportunity to be loud and silly before getting ready for bed. During meals they competed in “least waste” contests by measuring how much leftover food and napkins were left and used.

The week was also filled with the the kind of life experience that UTES teachers and staff will fertilize and nurture throughout the school year.

An enormous thank you to the folks who made this year’s camp a possibility.

(Thank you to Mr. Hall for providing the recap)
