Kamukama Foundation Director Visits UT Elementary School
Last Friday, Ian Sendagala, executive director of the Kamukama Foundation, visited UT Elementary (UTES) to learn about the research-based teaching practices that he could potentially emulate at Victory School in rural Uganda.
UTES Superintendent Dr. Melissa Chavez (pictured above in the center) gave Sendagala a campus tour, introducing him to teachers, staff and students. They were joined by Pat Oles, a supporter of UTES and the Kamukama Foundation, and two of the foundation’s board members, Carol Burdette and Jeanne Little.
They stopped by several classrooms to get a glimpse into a day-in-the-life of a Little Longhorn. Along the way, they watched students working on math exercises, creating artwork, studying bugs and strumming their violins. They also saw students harvesting plants in the campus garden, where they’re learning about healthy living and how to become good stewards of the earth.
The Little Longhorns were happy to take a break from their daily lessons to meet their special guests.
The students provided a Texas-sized greeting card, making Sendagala’s first trip to the United States a memorable one!
