Get HYPE with NAACP@UT
The UT Austin NAACP affiliate chapter wants you to Get HYPE Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. GET HYPE (Healthy Young People Everywhere) is an initiative of NAACP nation wide.
Thursday, Nov. 30, the chapter is hosting a forum on mental health from 6-7:15 p.m. in UTC 4.132. Nasiah Richard, chapter president, said a number of UT mental health professionals will attend. “Mental health is an issue that is often overlooked and our campus has so many mental health experts that we felt could address mental health issues.” There will be door prizes, Subway sandwiches and a Fitbit giveaway.
On Friday, Dec. 1, a Get HYPE health fair block party will be held on the East Mall next to the Student Activity Center and MLK statue from 12:30-3:30 p.m. FREE HIV-testing, smoothies from Smoothie King, yoga, campus and community health resources, giveaways, door prizes, and more will be available.
The UT Austin chapter began reactivating during the fall of 2016 and received recognition as a college unit from NAACP in May 2017. During the past year, group members have dedicated themselves to voter empowerment and educational empowerment with youth.
