81 Students in Cape Town, South Africa, for Interim VP Leonard Moore’s Study Abroad Program

Interim Vice President and Professor Leonard Moore is currently in Cape Town, South Africa, with 81 UT students for his Urban Economic Development study abroad program.

While in Cape Town, students take a class with Dr. Moore at the University of Cape Town and they have a twelve-hour a week internship at Cape Town firms and NGOs that specialize in business, entrepreneurship, health care, women’s empowerment, human capital, education, and economic development. Funded in part by a generous gift from UT International Board of Advisors member Juliet Berkowitz (UT ’86), a retired fashion industry professional and South African native, this program has become a model for diversifying global education due to the number of first-generation and low-income students who participate. This is the third cohort of students, Dr. Moore has taken to Cape Town.
