October is Disability Advocacy and Inclusion Month as well as National Disability Employment Awareness Month! To spread awareness about people with disabilities, Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is hosting several events throughout the month. disABILITY Advocate Instructor Training
What: This program is designed to help faculty, staff and students develop knowledge and advocacy skills to promote inclusion and access for people with disabilities. Over 1,000 students, faculty and staff have become Advocates on campus and this is your opportunity to get involved. RSVP through UT Learn (search for Disability Advocate).
When: 10-11:30 a.m., Oct. 10 (30-minute Q&A to follow)
Where: Peter O’Donnell Bulding (POB), room 3.408
Adapted Sports Night at UT
What: This is an open house event. Stop by and meet local athletes, including current UT students and alumni. They will be on hand to introduce you to their sports and share their experiences competing on the national and international level.
When: 6:30-9 p.m., Oct. 18
Where: Recreational Sports Center (RSC), court 3
disABILITY Advocate Foundation Training
What: The disABILITY Advocate Program is designed to help faculty, staff and students develop knowledge and advocacy skills to promote inclusion and access for people with disabilities. Topics include disability-related language, how to recognize and reduce barriers for people with disabilities, the perspective of disability as an aspect of diversity, and how to make a positive difference on campus for people with disabilities.
