Annual Summit Aims to Boost Success for Black Student-Athletes
Athletes, educators, leaders in the African American community and executives from professional athletics will come together at UT Austin’s fifth annual Black Student-Athlete Summit to lead discussions on issues facing Black athletes on college campuses. The three-day summit, hosted by the African American Male Research Initiative, is slated for Jan. 8-11 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center.
Revolving around the theme: “The Awakening of the Black Student-Athlete,” the summit will cover an array of topics, particularly issues related to mental health and academic achievement.
Keynote speakers include:
- John Brown, world-renowned bodybuilder, two-time Mr. Universe and a three-time Mr. World
- Dr. Akilah R. Carter-Francique, Prairie View A&M University professor and leading scholar of the representation of Black women in sports
