Project MALES Named ‘Examples of Excelencia’ Finalist
Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Educational Success) has recently been named a 2019 Examples of Excelencia finalist in the Southwest/Midwest category. This highly competitive award recognizes Project MALES’ achievements in accelerating Latino student success in higher education.
“By promoting and celebrating what works in serving Latino students in higher education, Excelencia increases awareness about the positive impact of the growth of the Latino population and programs that serve them well,” said Sarita Brown, president of Excelencia in Education. “Examples of Excelencia inspires leaders to implement innovations that can serve all students.”
Examples of Excelencia is a national effort by Excelencia in Education that brings attention to evidence-based practices that work for Latino students in higher education. Project MALES is one of only 16 finalists selected from over 166 nominated programs from 32 states, DC and Puerto Rico.
More about Project MALES: Housed within UT Austin’s Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, Project MALES is a research and mentoring initiative committed to advancing the educational outcomes of male students of color at the local, state and national level.
