Feb. 18 Front Porch Gathering to Focus on Census and Asian American Community

The Center for Community Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin is hosting “All Accounted For: Elevating Austin’s Asian American Community” on Tuesday, February 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the Asian American Resource Center. The session is an interactive workshop on the 2020 Census and is in partnership ith the Network of Asian American Organizations.
As Austin’s population grows larger and more racially diverse, it is critical to ensure the voices of every community in Central Texas is heard. Serving as a powerful tool that determines distribution of federal funds, redistricting, and representation, the 2020 Census is a significant part of this process. Despite the rapid growth of Austin’s Asian-American population, that part of our Austin community continues to be significantly undercounted. Supporting concerted efforts to meet the nuanced cultural and social needs of our full community is vital.

ABOUT THE FRONT PORCH GATHERING
As the “front porch” of The University of Texas at Austin (UT), the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) fosters mutually beneficial community-university collaborations that further the mission of the university to serve Texas and beyond with an emphasis on historically and currently underserved communities. CCE’s Front Porch Gathering represents UT’s open door to the Austin community, providing time and space for community collaboration. The Front Porch series connects UT research and resources with engaged community organizations and community members to identify strategies, align efforts, and foster collaborative relationships that result in action. The monthly gathering works to address issues of equity, disparity, and access.
