The UT contingent of Austin Pride has made the difficult decision to withdraw our participation from Austin Pride this year due to rising COVID-19 infections caused by the presence of the Delta variant in our communities. We are disappointed, but we want to follow the guidelines outlined by Austin Public Health and the recommendations of Dell Medical School.

UT has a lot to offer LGBTQIA+ Longhorns from courses in LGBTQ Studies to our many student groups, and even though we aren’t going to be celebrating at Austin Pride this year, there are a lot of ways to get involved and find community.

  • If you want to connect with the Gender and Sexuality Center and see what events they will be holding in the future, you can sign up for the newsletter, follow their Instagram, links for both can be found here.
  • Queer Trans Black Indigenous People of Color Agency (QTBIPOCA), a student organization within the Multicultural Engagement Center, is hosting a virtual Bloq Party happening at 5 p.m. on August 26. Please visit utmec.org and follow @utmec and @qtbipoca_ut on Instagram for more information.
  •  The Pride and Equity Faculty Staff Network will be hosting their annual welcome back event soon. You can follow their events and learn more about joining here.
  • The Texas Exes Pride Alumni Network also hosts events and gatherings. Find out more about their schedule and join here. Follow their Instagram here.

Thanks to you all for helping to make UT Austin a welcoming place, and for understanding that this was a hard decision for us to make, because we love celebrating pride and being together.

Wishing you all the best this year,

The UT Austin Pride Contingent
