On Tuesday, December 3rd, Dr. Ge Chen celebrated her retirement with a room full of staff and faculty members at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Chen, Assistant Vice President of Academic Diversity Initiatives at UT, has been with the university for 20+ years. Before becoming Assistant Vice President, Dr. Chen was the Executive Director for the Gateway Scholars Program, president and co-founder of the Asian/Asian-American Faculty and Staff Association, and board director of the Greater Austin Asian Chamber of Commerce.
Though Dr. Chen’s co-workers were saddened to see her go, they were also happy that she will get more time to spend with her family, particularly with her daughter and her grandchildren. As Carmen de las Mercedez, a graduate research assistant with the Gateway Scholars Program stated in her testimonial, “We know that family is so important to you, and we wish you the best. This is certainly not a ‘goodbye’, but merely a ‘see you later.'”
