The University Co-op and the Longhorn Center for Academic Equity offers two-and-a-half-year paid internships to University of Texas at Austin students serious about gaining interactive experiences and mentorship opportunities aligned with their academic and professional goals. The program begins with the required Spring 2023 ALD 118C preparation course.
Internship Overview
The initial spring semester, when taking ALD 118C, is an unpaid shadowing experience. The internship becomes a paid part-time nonexempt position in the summer. (Working during the summer is optional.) In the fall, the paid internship is aligned with participant’s career goals, as interns are integrated into one of the Co-op’s twelve departments. Interns will know their fall placement by the end of the ALD 118C course the previous spring.
Internship requires work on-site at the Co-op, but remote working may be available or required depending on public health circumstances. Availability during book rush and home football games is required each year. Pay begins at $13.00 per hour, with annual pay increases as responsibilities increase and performance merits.
ALD 118C Course
This course prepares students to become productive and confident members of the University Co-op team, and eventually, dynamic and competitive professionals on the job market. Students in this course shadow every department within the University Co-op to better understand the operations, management, and communications of a large nonprofit corporation. Completing the course is mandatory for continued participation in the internship. For Spring 2022, ALD 118C meets Mondays from 4:00-5:00P. Please note that the course format, either online synchronous or in-person, will depend on current status of the pandemic and guidance from relevant health authorities.
