Fall Signature Course:
UGS 303 Race on the Age of Trump
The UGS 303 Signature Course: Race in the Age of Trump is restricted to first-year students. The courses is a large-group lecture and discussion class focusing on a contemporary issue. It is designed to introduce undergraduates to scholarly analysis from an interdisciplinary perspective and includes an introduction to University resources, such as research facilities, museums, and attendance at University lectures or performances as assigned.
The purpose of this course is to enhance students’ ability to think critically about current issues related to race, class, gender, immigration, social entrepreneurship, globalization and other political issues in light of President Trump’s presidency. No matter what they think of the President’s policies, the expectation is that students will be able to engage in critical dialogue, write clearly and effectively about such topics, and be able to apply such learned skills to all aspects of their lives. By the end of the course, students will have the tools to engage in the following:
- Understand what is means to be a critical thinker and writer
- Engage in a fair-minded and intelligent conversation or debate
- Enhance awareness and understanding of the role of race in politics and government
- Develop an appreciation for diverse points of view
- Effectively research and present a selected course topic with a group of their peers
Spring Signature Course:
ALD 118C Distinguished Speaker Series Lecture
The ALD Signature Course: Distinguished Speaker Series Lecture is restricted to first-year students. The objective of this Speaker Series is to provide a discussion forum on various contemporary issues with and emphasis on multidiciplinary perspectives and critical discourse.
