Herndon, M. (2003). Expressions of Spirituality Among African-American College Males. The Journal of Men’s Studies, 12(1), 75-84.
In this qualitative study, spirituality among 13 African-American college males enrolled at a predominantly White institution (PWI) was investigated. Three major themes emerged: spirituality bolsters resilience; spirituality provides a sense of purpose; and spiritual support is provided by African-American religious institutions. These findings suggest that spirituality enhances African-American male students’ persistence. Adapted from the source document.
