Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models) is a Clemson University-based teacher-recruitment initiative to increase the number of elementary school teachers from diverse backgrounds in South Carolina, with a special emphasis on African American males. To support African American families in reading children’s books written by and about African Americans, teachers can establish well-stocked lending libraries so that children can take books home.
