Community Calendar

The University of Texas at Austin is made up of people from many different cultural communities. To promote understanding, inclusion and belonging, the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement has created a Cultural and Community Calendar. This calendar is an educational resource designed to increase awareness of and respect for cultural and community observances, celebrations, and awareness months that may affect students, colleagues, and neighbors in our community. It also includes academic dates for UT and surrounding K-12 school boards.

How do I use it?

Scroll through the list to explore the various cultural and community dates for 2023. The holiday column gives the name of the event or observance, and the community column gives the tradition or community the holiday is observed by. You will see whether a cultural and community date overlaps with UT official holidays and breaks. Some dates are about community awareness, like Disability Awareness month, others are faith-based, like Diwali, Ramadan, and Rosh Hashanah, while others still are holidays that are federally observed like MLK Day. The idea is to give everyone access to a list of dates that affect the communities we are part of or adjacent to. Note: The list is not exhaustive! If you have a cultural or community date that you think would add to the inclusive diversity of this list, you can contact DDCE@utexas.edu.

* Jewish holy days begin and end at sundown on the first and last days listed.
** These holidays are calculated on a lunar calendar and are approximate. Muslim holidays begin and end at sundown on the first and last days listed.
*** The Bahá’í day ends and a new one begins at sunset; consequently, the day on which a Holy Day is observed begins at sunset of the day before the Gregorian calendar dates given above.
