October is Breast Cancer awareness month and UT organization, HOPE Austin, helped bring awareness and funding for the disease. HOPE Austin is a service organization dedicated to promoting health awareness and aid to the campus and community.
On September 27th, HOPE Austin hosted a Breast Cancer Screening Event at St. David’s for uninsured and underprivileged women. The event provided pap smears and mammograms, and after two hours, women received their results. While waiting, the women were sent into a conference hall where multiple booths offered information about breast cancer, resources, and support groups. Among the booths were Cancer Society of America, Austin’s Fire Department, and the Breast Cancer Research Center.
In addition to this, HOPE Austin also participated in SCARE for a CURE, an Austin-based nonprofit organization that raises money for local cancer charities, during the weekends of October 4th and October 11th. Keep up the awesome work!
