Student Groups and Organizations

Disability Advocacy Student Coalition

The Disability Advocacy Student Coalition (DASC) is the student organization associated with Disability and Access which aims to promote awareness, advocacy and education about disability and accessibility on campus and in the community. We hope to serve as a disability hub for UT Austin, providing opportunities for connection, discussion and advocacy. Students with and without disabilities are welcome!

Texas Law Disability and Neurodivergence Alliance

The Texas Law Disability and Neurodivergent Alliance provides community, advocacy and excellent events for UT Law Students.

Student Government Disabilities and Inclusion Agency

The Disabilities and Inclusion Agency is an executive agency in Student Government that is committed to advocating for students with disabilities.

Students on the Spectrum

This group provides an opportunity for students on the spectrum to share experiences, ideas and resources with each other. Disability and Access and Longhorn TIES will be hosting UT Students on the Spectrum social activities and discussion nights.

Counseling and Mental Health Center Support Groups

Free to be ND

This weekly discussion group is open to all students who identify as neurodivergent (ND) including autistic and/or diagnosed with ADHD/ADD, sensory perception disorder (SPD), Tourette’s or a learning disability. The purpose of the group is to create an open, welcoming, respectful and confidential space where students can connect and talk openly about their experiences of being ND students at UT. This group is drop-in based, and students can attend one, some or all sessions.

Student Support Services

Longhorn TIES and the Neurodiversity Leadership Council

Longhorn TIES (Transition, Illuminate, Empower, Success) program within New Student Services coordinates and facilitates neurodiversity initiatives at UT. Longhorn TIES seeks to enhance the student experience for those who identify as neurodivergent through advocacy, connections and training, starting with the New Student Orientation process and continuing throughout the student’s tenure at the university.

Disability and Access

Disability and Access (D&A) works with students with disabilities to provide individualized accommodations and services, such as classroom and testing accommodations, priority registration, course load reduction, text in alternate formats, and live captioning and interpreting in order to ensure equal access to their educational experience at UT.

The Longhorn SHARE Project

A Mental Health Peer Support Program, the Longhorn SHARE Project offers a wide range of peer-led support groups, individual peer support opportunities, and other activities facilitated by trained SHARE Support Specialists and program staff.

Counseling and Mental Health Center

The Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) provides counseling, psychiatric, consultation and prevention services that facilitate students’ academic and life goals and enhance their personal growth and well-being.

Texas Center for Disability Studies

The Texas Center for Disability Studies works to create a better world through research, education, practice and policy. The Texas Center for Disability Studies is a part of UT’s Steve Hicks School of Social Work and strives to fulfill the mission, vision and values through work at the center and with its partners.

Disabled Faculty and Staff Association

This new University Resource Group (URG) will serve faculty and staff who identify as disabled, Deaf, neurodivergent, chronically ill, having a mental health disability or undiagnosed (among many other intersectional identities they may hold), , as well as those connected to disability personally or professionally who want to support the efforts of DFSA. This URG will strive to communicate the needs of these diverse groups to the campus community and celebrate the voices, identities, experiences, and talents of the group. Our goals are to connect faculty and staff who hold these identities to opportunities we find valuable, including but not limited to training and professional development, available support resources and information, and community-building spaces and events to connect with others.

ADA Coordinator for Faculty/Staff Employee Accommodations

UT is required by law to provide reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities. The accommodation process is a collaborative and interactive process between the University ADA Coordinators, the employee seeking accommodations, the employee’s supervisor, and/or other appropriate personnel (including Human Resources personnel and benefits).

Employee Assistance Program

The HealthPoint Employee Assistance Program provides brief counseling and consultation services, crisis intervention, assessment and referral, educational and training programs, and supervisory consultation.
