Here are some excerpts from the students’ nominations:
“…He met my despair with compassion and understanding, allowing me to turn in a major assignment late, and offered me any help that I needed. I was able to turn in my best work, and to get more out of the assignment than I would have without the extra time. I was also, I think, one of his first students with my specific accommodations, and he met the extra challenge of being my professor with grace and kindness! I also loved his class and will take all of his lessons with me everywhere I go in life!”
“He was not only accommodating he was also compassionate. I felt that he truly cared and wanted to help me succeed. He gave me an abundance of grace as well as empathy.”
“She was completely understanding of my accommodations….She was very helpful in allowing me to have an equal learning experience as other students in her class. I may not have done as well as I would have liked, I learned more than I thought I would and discovered new ways to approach problems”
“Flexible and understanding teacher. This teacher was available to students and always open to suggestions. An example of universal design in the instructions for assignments and exams. Keywords were indicated in bold or underlined, summaries of information were provided in the lecture notes. The material was available in multiple formats, explaining information in ways that accommodated different learning style. The presentation of information was done so every student could benefit while being particularly useful for students with disabilities. I felt perceived as any student, and I appreciated that very much.”
