Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is seeking instructors to serve on the 2020-2021 Faculty Advisory Committee. The SSD Faculty Advisory Committee provides a way for SSD to receive direct input from UT instructors in order to: 1) understand questions and concerns from instructors about providing accommodations and 2) engage instructors in improving the accommodation process at UT, 3) provide professional development and best practices for creating accessible learning environments and accommodating students with disabilities.
Membership Responsibilities: The duration of the advisory committee term is one academic year. Members will serve from the beginning of the fall semester through the end of the following spring semester. Expectations for members include 1) commitment to making a positive contribution to the awareness and experience of UT students with disabilities, 2) willingness to provide input and feedback in a constructive and collaborative manner and 3) availability to attend monthly committee meetings (3rd Monday of the month from 9-10am). Meetings will be conducted either via Zoom or a combination of in person and Zoom options depending on the University operations.
Additional information and instructions about applying to become a member of the Faculty Advisory Committee are included in the linked SSD Advisory Committee Description 20-21. Questions about the Committee and statements of interest can be sent to emily.s@austin.utexas.edu by September 1st.
The SSD Faculty Advisory Committee plays a key role in helping SSD to identify areas for improvement and to develop strategies or implement changes to ensure students with disabilities have equal access to their academic experience. We look forward to recruiting a diverse and dedicated group of instructors to work with during the 2020-2021 academic year!
