SSD uses a Portal to help students and instructors coordinate the provision of accommodations. Students and instructors can log in to the SSD Portal with their EID and password. The Student and Instructor Portals have different modules that provide different functions based on their role in the accommodation process at UT.

SSD Portal Overview
The Student Portal contains the following modules:
- Accommodation Letters
- Tests and Exams
- Course Notes
Students have access to these modules based on their role and their approved SSD accommodations. The Student Portal allows students registered with SSD to download their Accommodation Letters, schedule tests at SSD, request a note-taker for their classes, download notes, and view their upcoming appointments (e.g., test reservations).
The Instructor Portal contains the following modules:
- Accommodation Letters
- Tests and Exams
Instructors can use these online modules to view their students’ Accommodation Letters as well as confirm test reservations for students who have requested space to test at SSD for their class(es).
Instructors will only be able to access information for students who have requested Accommodation Letters for their class(es).
SSD Modules Overview
Accommodation Letters Module
SSD does not automatically issue Accommodation Letters to students and instructors. Accommodation Letters are only generated after a student submits a request to SSD for their letters.
Students and instructors will receive an email when an Accommodation Letter has been generated and is available to view via the SSD Portal. Students and Instructors will be able to log in to the Portal to be able to view and/or download the Accommodation Letter.
Instructors can decide whether they would like to use the Instructor Portal to access Accommodation Letters. Students should communicate with instructors to find out if their instructor will be viewing Accommodation Letters and handouts via the portal, or if the student should download and print a hard copy to deliver to the instructor.
Instructors have the option of confirming receipt of the Accommodation Letter via the Portal, which will trigger an email notification to the student. Even if instructors choose to view Accommodation Letters online, students are still responsible for contacting instructors to discuss their Accommodation Letters, including any associated handouts. Instructors do not have to provide approved accommodations until they have discussed them with the student.
Tests and Exams Module
Students should only reserve space to test at SSD if the instructor is unable to provide their testing accommodations. There is not a centralized testing center at UT, and SSD has limited space available for testing.
Students are responsible for logging into the Student Portal to schedule tests with SSD at least 10 business days (two weeks) prior to the date of a test. Students should only make test reservations at SSD based on the date(s)/time(s) previously agreed upon by the instructor. After requesting the date/time of the test, students and instructors will receive an email with the options for providing SSD with confirmation from the instructor.
SSD requires confirmation from instructors for students to test at SSD on the date(s)/time(s) the student requested. Instructors can use the Instructor Portal to view and confirm test reservations online as well as upload copies of their tests.
Students should communicate with instructors to determine if they will be using the Instructor Portal to confirm test reservations online. If an instructor prefers not to confirm tests via the Instructor Portal, then the student is responsible for delivering the paper test confirmation form to the instructor to sign. The student is also responsible for submitting the completed test reservation form to SSD in person. Instructors who confirm test reservations online will not need to sign students’ paper test reservation forms.
Confirmation, whether online or on the paper form, must be received at least 5 business days (one week) prior to the date of a test.
Students’ completed test will be returned to instructors based on their indicated preference of one of the following methods: 1) email 2) in-person pick up by the instructor/TA or 3) hand-delivery via student in a sealed envelope.

Notes and Note-takers Modules
Students who are registered with SSD and approved for notetaking assistance as an accommodation will be able to access the Notes Module on the Student Portal to request a note-taker for each of their classes where notes are needed.
Students who sign up with SSD as a volunteer note-taker will be able to access the Note-takers Module to upload copies of their class notes to the Student Portal. To maintain confidentiality, note-takers will be unable to identify who is receiving their copy of class notes, and students will be unable to identify the volunteer note-taker.
The Instructor Portal does not contain a notetaking module, which means instructors are unable to use the portal to coordinate students’ notetaking accommodations online. Instructors should refer to SSD’s Notetaking Guidelines Handout for information about how to provide a copy of class notes to students approved for notetaking assistance.
