Kellen Alejandro Foyt is a third-year student at the University of Texas and is currently majoring in Special Education. Kellen was born and raised in inner-city Austin and went to public schools in East Austin. When Kellen was in the first grade, he was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia and throughout his education in Grade School, Austin Community College, and at the University of Texas, he has been able to navigate his academics with two learning disabilities. Because of Kellen’s childhood experiences, he is prominent in advocating for minorities and students with disabilities. In his time at the University he had the opportunity to volunteer at Texas School of the Blind and has attended events with Texas School of the Deaf. Kellen has great passion sharing the importance in education abroad and has exemplified that when he traveled to San Joaquin de la Flores, Costa Rica to develop skills in servant leadership, self-awareness and global awareness. It is in Kellen’s interest to continue his experiences abroad and use that to advocate for education abroad.
