The Hearts of Texas Charitable Campaign is The University of Texas at Austin’s tradition of charitable giving. The campaign a part of the larger State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC). Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers and the generosity of UT Austin’s employees, a total amount of $246,676 was raised in the 2022 virtual campaign. These contributions have no doubt helped charities navigate the many challenges of the pandemic, and we thank you all for your support.
With the continued effects of the pandemic and ensuing economic challenges, nonprofits need us now more than ever. Last year, the Hearts of Texas permanently transitioned to a virtual, payroll-giving only campaign so we can best support our campus and communities. Keeping the virtual-only format allows UT staff and faculty to continue supporting external nonprofits through easy, hassle-free online transactions that automatically deduct a charitable gift payment from their monthly paycheck. It also allows our Hearts of Texas team of over 240 department representatives and CSU coordinators across campus the flexibility to focus their efforts on this and other university initiatives.
We are implementing the following permanent changes for the 2023 Hearts of Texas charitable giving campaign:
- Hearts of Texas is a Payroll Giving only campaign, as we are unable to accept cash or check gifts
- All communication and fundraising will be electronic
- CSU and Department Giving Reports will not be updated as we transition to an online campaign that models other university giving initiatives
Organized by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE), the campus-wide campaign runs throughout the entire month of October. Since this effort began in 1996 UT Austin has donated about $15 million to worthy causes. Visit the Hearts of Texas website for more details.
