Navratri: dancing to Celebrate the Goddess in Every Girl
–
September 30, 2016
The celebration of Navratri at the University of Texas at Austin culminates in performing traditional dances such as garba, raas, and bhangra. Garba is a graceful dance in which people dance in a circle, often around a centerpiece of flowers and lamps. Dandiya raas is a fast-paced dance in which dancers with colorfully decorated sticks (dandiya) strike the sticks of the person in front of them. Bhangra is a more modern form of dance, in which everyone dances with their hands in the air.
Come celebrate Navratri free with Hindu Students Association! There will be a fantastic DJ, great music, tasty food, and free t-shirts! Please bring your UT ID if you want to use our dandiya sticks!
