Volunteers are vital to the success of the Neighborhood Longhorns Program (NLP), and what better way to expose children to college than by giving them the opportunity to learn from actual UT students. NLP enlists current college students for our tutoring program in the fall and spring semesters. Please consider serving as a tutor and helping a child understand that they too have the potential to attend college one day.
Visit our GivePulse Page to see a full list of current opportunities and to register as an NLP volunteer.
Tutoring typically takes place Monday-Thursday after school at select elementary and middle school campuses throughout Austin. While we encourage individuals to sign up for recurring shifts throughout the semester, one-time volunteer shifts are also available.
If you are part of a student organization on campus, we invite your organization to “adopt” one of our tutoring schools. NLP requests a minimum commitment of one hour per week. As an organization, at least 4-5 members need to show up on a weekly basis. They do not have to be the same members every week. Please contact the NLP for more information.
In addition to tutoring, NLP hosts AISD students on campus for special events, such as College for a Day, throughout the year, and schools often request help with special events on their campuses. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with events, and these opportunities will be listed on our GivePulse page when available.
