For the third year in a row, Project MALES is mentoring at William B. Travis High School (Travis). This year the mentoring site coordinator at Travis H.S. is Juan Lopez, a first year master’s student in the education department with a specialization in College and University Student Personnel Administration at the University of Texas at Austin. Working along with Juan are eight mentors: Arlina Garcia, Toby Ramirez, Jacob Campos, Jonathan Espinoza, Fidel Deaquino, Lidia Salazar, Nalisia Greenleaf, and Pablo Rivera. Enrique Reyes, a work-study will be in charge of facilitating the weekly mentoring discussions and activities along with the other mentors.
During the first week of mentoring at Travis, mentees were introduced to the Project MALES mentoring program through icebreakers and introductions of mentors. Students also received a Project MALES packet, which included information regarding the mentoring program, our most recent newsletter, and a student survey to help in the pairing of mentors and mentees.
So far mentoring at Travis is off to a great start this semester. Stay tuned next week as we profile Reagan High School.
