I am pleased to announce that Emmet Campos, Ph.D., has joined the team as the new Director of Project MALES and the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color. Effective July 29th, Dr. Campos will serve as the chief operations officer for all Project MALES and Consortium internal and external activities and will be responsible for communications and engagement with key partners across the state. Dr. Campos’ many years of leadership and management experience will be essential to the continued success of Project MALES and the Consortium.
Dr. Campos has over fifteen years of work experience managing projects that focused on providing low-income youth, first-generation students, and high school and college students of color with the skills and tools necessary for secondary and postsecondary success. In his most recent position as Project Director/Researcher in the Center for Community College Student Engagement at UT Austin, he led three national grant-funded research and practice-based initiatives that supported college and university administrators, faculty, staff, and students. He has extensive experience working directly on projects focused on male students of color, including a recent Kresge Foundation-funded research project and a prior direct-service project with the Institute for Community, University, and School Partnerships in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT. He has also taught at UT Austin, St. Edward’s University and Austin Community College.
In his many professional positions he has managed multiple projects, built and leveraged multi-sector partnerships, supervised staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and managed administrative and grant-funded budgets in progressively responsible administrative university settings. These skills will be especially important as we embark on our fourth year of our mentoring partnership with Austin ISD and the third year of our Consortium work that includes partnerships with 15 different educational institutions across the state.
Dr. Campos received a doctorate degree in Cultural Studies in Education/Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Emmet Campos to the team.
