Over thirty educational leaders from independent school districts and two and four-year institutions of higher education from across the state of Texas have presently convening at San Antonio College for our fifth Consortium meeting. Dr. Lisa Alcorta, Dean of Student Success at San Antonio College, welcomed everyone. Conversation about the instituting advisory council bylaws was led by Dr. Robert Muñoz and Dr. Emmet Campos.The morning also featured a regional partners panel with panelists from the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, P-16 Plus Council of Bexar County, South Texas College, La Joya ISD, and Texas State University.
UT Austin research members provided a summary and feedback about the 2015 UT Male Student Leadership Summit. Additionally, the Texas A&M University external evaluation team led by Dr. Luis Ponjuán, Susana Hernandez, and Leticia Palomin. Dr. Ponjuán and the TAMU team also provided the council with an update on the findings from our site visits conducted so far. Our meeting will conclude with breakout sessions where groups will be divided by institutional type and sector. Groups will have the opportunity to share some of their current practices and challenges they are facing around male-focused student programing at their respective institutional level. We are excited about our progress thus far and look forward to providing more updates regarding our Consortium work.
