On Saturday, November 7th about ten Project MALES mentors and mentoring staff participated in AISD’s first town hall meeting, at the Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex. This meeting brought together middle and high school male students of color representing various schools within AISD. The meeting was organized by AISD leaders who are considering creating a “Young Men of Action” Youth Council and wanted to get feedback from current AISD students, in terms of what they feel AISD and the community can do to create opportunities for them to be successful.
Other organizations in attendance were the ACC Men of Color, AISD My Brother’s Keeper Planning Group, AISD Police, Dove Community Advancement Network, Dove Springs Proud, NAACP Youth Council, and the XY-Zone. The event was a great success! Project MALES looks forward to continuing to participate in events that aim to improve the schooling and educational experiences of young men of color in Central Texas.
