Drawing from a spatial justice framework and under the direction of Dr. Juan Carrillo, UNC-CH’s School of Education has launched the Latin@ Education Research Hub (LERH). The hub is organized around three core areas: public pedagogy, university-community/school partnerships, and critical Latin@ education research. LERH has a local, state and national focus, seeking to provide a leading role in Latin@ education.
The LERH is located in the UNC Chapel Hill School of Education. 1st ever research-community space dedicated to Latin@ education at UNC’s School of Education and one of the first research-community spaces of its kind among schools of education in the state of North Carolina. The LERH was inspired by NC Latin@ education research (including Dr. Carrillo’s own research on Latino males in the New Latin@ South), student involvement and frustrations over lack of LATIN@ RESEARCH and space @ UNC Chapel Hill, community concerns, desire to link theory with social action –students have been and are currently involved in LERH’s development moving forward. For more information on the LERH visit their webpage here
Project MALES would like to congratulate Dr. Carrillo on his new initiative and wishes him success in his future endeavors.
