On May 16th and 17th Dr. Victor Sáenz, Executive Director of Project MALES and Project MALES Faculty Affiliates, Dr. Nolan Cabrera, Associate Professor at the University of Arizona and Dr. David Perez II, Assistant Professor at Miami University, Ohio were invited to the White House to join the Executives’ Alliance for Boys and Men of Color- a network of 40 foundations committed to expanding opportunity for this population.
The event convened a small group of the nation’s leading experts on collegiate performance, retention, and completion for males of color. Senior officials from the U.S. Department of Education, including Deputy Undersecretary Kim Hunter Reed and Asst. Deputy Secretary James Cole attended portions of the meeting, as well as Michael D. Smith, presidential advisor and director of the My Brother’s Keeper at the White House. The purpose of this gathering was to begin to develop a national strategy for improving academic opportunity and achievement for males of color throughout the entirety of higher education.
