Dr. Figueroa is a professor at California State University, Sacramento in the Department of Ethnic Studies. Additionally, Dr. Figueroa holds faculty affiliation with the Doctoral Educational Leadership Program at Sacramento State. Dr. Figueroa is recognized as one of the earliest contributors informing and framing the body of knowledge examining the academic success of Latino males in higher education. Dr. Figueroa’s research uses sociocultural perspectives on Latino males in higher education to examine their perspectives and practices with regards to academic success. Understanding from a student experience what constitutes a challenge and explaining how the challenge is resolved through their journey to attain academic succeed is of central interest. Dr. Figueroa completed her doctoral studies in Education from the University of California, Berkeley, completed a M.A. in Education from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her B.A. in Sociology and Chicano Studies from the University of California, Davis.
