Project MALES (Mentoring to Achieve Latino Educational Success) — an initiative of the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement (DDCE) at UT-Austin – is hosting the inaugural Project MALES Summer Academy (June 15-17, 2016). The three-day Summer Academy is open to young men from four Austin ISD middle schools (Garcia, Martin, Mendez and Webb). The first two days will be held at Gus Garcia Young Men’s Leadership Academy (7414 Johnny Morris Rd, Austin, TX 78724), and the third day will be held on the campus of UT-Austin. This event is free of charge, and lunch/snacks will be provided all three days. Transportation will be arranged by each participating middle school.
The Project MALES Summer Academy features three days of workshops and sessions that focus on building leadership skills, communication skills, and www.projectmales.org.

- Workshops on Creative Writing, Spoken Word, and Teatro led by Sarah Rafael Garcia, MFA, Barrio Writers, Empowering Teens Through Creative Writing, Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, MFA, UT Austin Theatre Professor, and Dr. Lilia Rosas, Director of Red Salmon Arts and Resistencia Bookstore
Friday, 6/17/16, 9am-2pm; Location: UT-Austin
- We will spend the final day of our Summer Academy on the UT-Austin campus exploring buildings and museums, visiting laboratories, meeting with University faculty and staff, and eating at Jester Cafeteria (UT residence hall).
