On Aug. 11-12, 2016, the Texas Education Consortium for Male Students of Color hosted the third annual Texas Male Student Leadership Summit at the University of Texas at Austin, and it was yet another huge success. Over 400 young men of color and professionals attended, representing school districts, community colleges, and universities from across the state of Texas.
This year we introduced pre-summit Student Interests Groups (SIG) featuring workshops on going to college and graduate school. We also introduced a new track for high school students to go with our college student track and our professional track. Each of these tracks featured sessions on our three themes, Brotherhood, Leadership, and Career Readiness. This year, our student track workshops featured topics on creating a brotherhood, the early college high school experience, and men of color leading for change- to name a few.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors, partners, presenters, DDCE staff, Project MALES staff, and volunteers who made this 2016 Texas Male Student Leadership Summit a huge success. THANK YOU!
