On February 22nd Dr. João H. Costa Vargas, Associate Professor in the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies and the Department of Anthropology at The University of Texas at Austin, kicked-off our Project MALES spring Plática series.
Dr. Costa Vargas’ research focuses on race, politics, and social inequality, cultural studies, social theory; U.S., Brazil, African diaspora. For our Plática, Dr. Costa Vargas shared his work on Mass incarceration and the criminal justice system in the United States and his work with Black organizations in Brazil.
