Dr. Victor Saenz, Dr. Emmet Campos, and Mike Gutierrez participated in the seventh annual National Mentoring Summit. The meeting took place from February 1-3, 2017 at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Downtown. This year’s theme was “Building Relationships, Advancing the Movement”.
The National Mentoring Summit is the only national convening of youth mentoring professionals, researchers, philanthropic investors and government and civic leaders aimed at collectively strengthening and expanding quality mentoring relationships for young people across the country.
This year Dr. Saenz participated on a panel titled “Advancing Educational Equity & Opportunity through Relationships.” The session brought together mentoring experts from across the country and offered participants an opportunity to engage in a discussion about best practices in mentoring and building relationships to advance educational equity and opportunities for students of color.
In addition, Dr. Campos and Mike participated in Capitol Hill Day were they met with Congressman Lloyd Doggett to discuss key bills and issues in Congress and mentoring efforts happening in the communities of Texas. They also attended a session with social justice leaders from across the country where they had a discussion about critical mentoring.
We look forward to engaging with our local, state, and nationwide partners to continue the critical dialogue around issues impacting young men of color.
