ABOUT THE FRONT PORCH GATHERING
As the “front porch” of The University of Texas at Austin (UT), the Community Engagement Center (CEC) initiates and stewards successful community-university partnerships that connect the resources of the university with individuals, groups, and institutions in historically and current underserved Austin communities. CEC’s Front Porch Gathering represents UT’s open door to the Austin community, providing time and space for community collaboration. Designed to activate more than just dialogue, the Front Porch series connects UT research and resources with engaged community organizations and community members to identify strategies, align efforts, and foster collaborative relationships. The monthly gathering works to address issues of equity, disparity, and access through active engagement.
The Community Engagement Center (CEC) and My Brother’s Keeper of Austin (MBK Austin) will cohost a Front Porch Gathering focused on the observed systemic criminalization of Black and Latino male students K-12. We invite students, parents and community leaders to explore such discriminatory practices and the resources available to support Black and Latino students in Central Texas and ensure their success. Join us for an interactive and exploratory workshop for young men of color, parents, community members and leaders, led by MBK Austin Chair and UT DDCE vice president, Dr. Leonard Moore and associate director of the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center at Prairie View A&M, Dr. Paris Grady.
