The Project MALES Fall 2018 Pláticas Series will host its second session this Monday, October 22, 2018, in UTC 1.104 on the UT campus. Our monthly pláticas feature prominent local community and university leaders who facilitate small group discussions with our UT undergraduate and graduate student mentors. Our second Plática Series speaker will be Dr. Joshua Childs, an assistant professor of Educational Policy and Planning (EPP) in the Department of Educational Administration.
Dr. Childs received his Ph.D. in Learning Sciences and Policy at the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on the role of inter-organizational networks, cross-sector collaborations, and strategic alliances to address complex educational issues. Specifically, his work examines collaborative approaches involving community organizations and stakeholders that have the potential to improve academic achievement and reduce opportunity gaps for students in urban and rural schools. Dr. Childs is an RGK Faculty Fellow (http://rgkcenter.org/) and a faculty fellow with the Institute for Urban Policy Research & Analysis (https://liberalarts.utexas.edu/iupra/index.php).
Dr. Childs teaches both M.ED and Ph.D. courses in the EPP program. He has most recently taught Policy Implementation, Organizational Design, Research Methods, and an advanced seminar on networks.
Our Project MALES plática series is open to the UT Austin and local Austin community. Food will be provided. Please join us on Monday, October 22, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in UTC 1.104.
